Artist Lead Project - The Darkrooms - The Old Passmore Edwards School Of Science and Art - Now CAST - Helston
2013
CAST is a visual arts organisation based in Helston Penzance. Before the renovations began over 40 Artists transformed every room in the old school building into an individual work of art and then opened the doors over a cold February weekend.
“There was this fairly wild event in this wrecked building in February. It was bitterly cold – the building was damp and fiercely cold. To me it felt like a kind of ‘pinch yourself’ moment, I thought maybe I’m in Berlin, maybe I’m in downtown New York in the 1970s. It was quite something.“ Theresa Gleadowe
As an artist lead project, lead by artist Jesse Leroy Smith, we had several site visits exploring the near derelict building, selecting spaces we wanted to work with. During one of the site visits I noticed some beautiful mould growing above a skirting board in one of the rooms, aware it was about to be scrubbed off and treated, I photographed it extensively. I then ‘reinstated’ the mould behind the glass doors of a cupboard in a small room.
