Mould Paintings
Growth
54cm x 54cm
£1600
Created over several years, the piece began with the deliberate act of leaving the canvas in a dark, damp environment to cultivate mould. This initial stage allowed the natural growth to imprint patterns on the surface. Once the desired effect was achieved after approximately 18 months, the mould was sealed to halt further development and preserving its initial marks.
Using the markings as a foundation, a starting point, I worked on it in layers using various mediums, including acrylic, charcoal, pencil, and ink.
