Dirty Windows
Group Exhibition - Picture This - Penwith Gallery - St Ives
2016
Curated by artist Janet McEwan, seven Cornwall-based artists were invited to respond to the title 'Picture This'
I spent time obscuring the studio windows overlooking the stunning Porthmeor beach with dirt, capturing photographs through these smeared panes.Often, there exists an opinion—frequently held beyond Cornwall—that people growing up and living in St Ives lead a carefree, idyllic lifestyle. This perception couldn't be further from reality.
There are pockets of St Ives with the largest percentage of children living in poverty in Cornwall, ranking among the highest in the country.
'Dirty Windows' aims to blur this reality, distorting the scene and smearing the rose-tinted view of one of St Ives' most breathtaking beaches.
