Black Zawn
Ceramics
Group Exhibition - Where the Line Breaks - Tremenheere Gallery - Penzance
2024
‘Black Zawn’ , a geological term used to describe a narrow, steep-sided inlet or gorge created by the erosion of cliffs by the sea. There is something mysterious and perhaps even a bit foreboding about these hidden depths seen within the landscape.
Surrendering control, I’m curious about the intersection between form and disruption. Within the cracks and fractures of ‘Black Zawn’ the piece also considers the passage of time and life's transience.
The negative space between the two pieces of Black Zawn reveals a balance and tension that I’m playing with quite a lot in the studio at the moment with the arrangements of my ceramic pieces.
