“The alchemical process of turning undesired dirt or discarded items into something desirable or curious is a way to explore how value and beauty can emerge from the overlooked and unwanted,”

Emma Saffy Wilson creates tableaus, installations and sculptures using raw, unrefined materials.

Her practice is deeply rooted in primal materials like dirt, clay and discarded objects, exploring themes of growth, decay, and the inherent beauty in imperfection. Living in far west Cornwall, a wild area rich in mythology and sacred sites, Wilson’s work reflects this  cultural heritage.

Her process is deliberate and slow, cultivating a deeper connection with materials and their stories.

“I work intuitively, often letting control slip away,” she says. “I trust that through this play, the final result will reveal itself to me.”

In a time marked by a consumerism and superficial perfection, Wilson’s practice urges us to reconnect with the essence of our material world, to find beauty in the discarded and to recognise the spiritual significance in the everyday.
