Dirty War
Newlyn Society Artists Selected Show - Reality Check - Newlyn Art Gallery - Newlyn
2009
A very immediate response to the term ‘Dirty War’. Iconic plastic toy soldiers faceless, motionless,
anonymous, posing no threat in their smallness and lack of detail. As a young child these plastic toy soldiers,
triggered no direct relationship to the realities of war. As children we playfully created landscapes for battles
in the living room carpet or outside in the dirt, we were forced to assign meaning to them because, at least to
us, they lacked any.
